Practical Tips To Level Up Your Travels: Travel More in 2024

In today’s world, many people would like to travel and explore new destinations, but they’re often asking themselves the million dollar question, “how can I travel more?”. It’s important to be able to adequately plan for travel, not just by creating a list of your bucket list destinations, but by strategically mapping out steps to ensure you’re able to travel more. Here’s a guide on how to embrace flexibility, manage your finances, and prioritize travel through proactive planning for 2024.

Step 1: Make Your Schedule Work

  • Plan in Advance: Map out potential travel dates in your calendar for the upcoming year immediately. This will allow you to begin creating a visual of available dates for potential trips in the new year

  • Maximize Vacation Days: It is imperative to consider how you can strategically use public holidays, weekends, and vacation days to extend your trips. Many of your trips may have to be extended weekend getaways to make the most of your paid time off (PTO)

  • Embrace Flexibility: Flexibility is one of the most underrated travel hacks and it will be key to increasing your travels in 2024 and beyond. For example: this can be by being flexible with your work schedule, by beginning your work days earlier if you can and taking a late flight out, which allows you to avoid taking a PTO day. Flexibility can also be with your destination or the dates for your travel

Step 2: Making Travel a Financial Priority

  • Travel Savings: As I’ve always advised, building strong money management skills is key to be able to fulfill your goals of traveling more. You should begin working on making travel a financial priority by creating a dedicated travel savings fund and set up automatic contributions to this fund. This would allow you to continuously be saving towards travel, which would help you be more prepared for jumping on those random travel deals

  • Travel Hacking: Having good money management with savings towards travel isn’t the only financial hack you can use! If you work on managing your money better, you may be able to maximize your savings by accumulating reward points and miles through travel credit cards or loyalty programs. This would allow you to spend less on travel, while still hitting those bucket list destinations

Step 3: Curate Your Travel Vision Board

  • Make A Visual: Visualize your travel aspirations by creating a vision board. Identify when you want to travel, who you'll be exploring with, estimated trip costs, and crucially, whether it fits your budget. Assess if additional income streams are necessary to support your travel goals

  • Actionable Travel Plans: Break down your travel goals into actionable plans. For example: you may want to aim to visit a set number of new places in a year, whether that’s new states or visiting a world wonder or visiting a new continent. This allows you to have an idea of your travel goals and you can better align your travels with enticing deals and offers

  • Price Alerts: Set up price alerts using tracking tools like Google Flights to monitor flight changes, track average prices, and leverage historical data to identify the best times to book your flights. This is the best time to begin preparing and planning for future travel

By mapping out your PTO strategically, managing your finances effectively, and leveraging various travel hacks, you can transform your wanderlust goals into reality. It is imperative that you also embrace flexibility and keep your travel vision board at the center of your planning!

Following these practical tips would allow you to find the perfect balance between your travel goals being a dream and actually bringing them to life.
