Flight Time:
Depending on the time zones, you should consider booking a flight that will be overnight (if possible), because you will arrive during the day at your destination. This will help you to sleep on a long international flight, since you will be in the air during your normal sleeping hours. This hack will also assist you with adjusting to your destination’s time zone upon arrival
Stay Hydrated:
It’s important for you to remain hydrated on your long haul flights. You may be thinking the more you drink water, the more times you will have to use the restroom, but staying hydrated on a long flight is critical. You need to ensure you are minimizing the risks of being dehydrated while in the air!
Make Yourself Comfortable:
Leave the bulky clothing or fancy shoes for when you arrive at your destination. For your long haul international flights, it is important to wear proper clothing and this has helped me a lot to remain comfortable on board. I typically wear lightweight t-shirts and sweatpants or leggings on travel days. In addition, you can use the pillow and blankets provided on your flight (if provided) or the ones you brought, to add additional comfort and support for your neck and back
Compression Socks:
An affordable way to reduce the risk of blood clots is by using compression socks. I purchased mine a few years ago on Amazon and you can definitely find a pack there. The compression socks helps to keep your blood circulating throughout your time on the flight and can also reduce swelling in your legs
Airplane Footrests:
These are a game changer for your long haul international flights. Over the past year, I’ve been utilizing my airplane footrest and combining it with my compression socks and it has been amazing! I purchased mine on Amazon and they are simple to set up around your tray table and do not take up a lot of space in your personal item
In-Flight Meals and Snacks:
Do not pass up your food. You may be thinking, well “I’m not hungry right now”, but remember you will be in flight for a long period of time. You should always ensure you eat and drink adequately when you are in flight, as you would normally do at home. I would suggest saving snacks even for after meal times, because these can be eaten after an in-flight nap
Movement:
Do not sit for the entire flight. You should take some time in between to take restroom breaks, do some leg stretching or some walking in the aisle. This helps you to reduce cramping and increase overall blood circulation in your body
Hydrating Masks:
Consider purchasing easy to use hydrating face masks to use mid-flight or prior to you landing at your destination. These can provide you with an extra boost of hydration before you land
Don’t be intimidated when planning your next long haul international trip! Take some of these tips and apply it, I promise you it will make the world of difference.
